The leadership of the Western Jurisdiction is taking an active part in helping to channel relief efforts to the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. The project has been named "Operation Resurrection 2010: A Compassionate Response to the Earthquake from the Western Jurisdiction," and the following documents give some of the details:
- Operation Resurrection 2010
- Letter from Rev. Brian Diggs, Director UMCOR West Office and Depot
A Service of Prayer For Those Harmed By the Haitian Earthquake was prepared as a response to the disaster, and here's a video of Bishop Hagiya of the Pacific Northwest Conference, encouraging the people and churches of that conference to continue in their generosity.
Updates from the conferences of the Western Jurisdiction about their Operation Resurrection efforts are posted here. (As of 4/7/2010, the total raised in the Western Jurisdiction has surpassed 2 million dollars.) Please visit the individual WJ conference websites for further news and details of their Haiti mission work. Ongoing Haiti relief projects are also detailed on the WJ UM Volunteers in Mission website.
Update - January 2012: A website (http://2011-haiti.blogspot.com/) and a Journal of the October 2011 Bishop's Mission Trip to Haiti are online. Please share them with others who continue to be supportive of, and concerned about the ongoing work in Haiti.
