Relevance X Young Adult Conference - Las Vegas

Young leaders converge, innovate and transform the Church

NEWS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Las Vegas, NV - September 9, 2011 - Relevance X 2012 is set to inhabit Las Vegas, NV February 17 - 19, 2012. More than an event or conference you attend, this gathering, now in its third year, sees itself as a movement focusing on empowering young adults through worship and service, uniting their voices, and actively creating change in our respective communities. While no shortage of commentary continues to address the exodus of the under 35 crowd in today’s mainline denominations, those who plan and gather at Relevance will be creating and telling a different story.

This year’s theme recalls the exile of 587 which did not lead to despair and a loss of faith, but as Bruce Birch and Walter Brueggemann phrase it in A Theological Introduction to the Old Testament, “Rather, the exile became a remarkable moment in the life of the Jewish community for inventive and generative faith, which experimented with new articulations of that faith and which produced much of the more eloquent and more determined literature of the Old Testament.” The profound questions of faith that emerged from this exilic experience are the same questions that today’s under 35 crowd ask as they search for meaningful communities that have accepted their multifaceted lives: Is Yahweh not powerful? Is Yahweh not faithful? How do we hope in exile? How do we move beyond exile? Is there life after exile?

Participants in Relevance X 2012 will explore these questions and more in the context of worship, conversation and visioning for the the church of today. Early bird registration is now available. Spaces on the volunteer teams are still available.
